Madonna and Child

My original sketch of the figures and pose.

(Sept. 14, 2019)

After deciding on the overall size of the composition I had in mind, I prepped a 4x4 foot Birch Wood panel and started painting.

By mid-December, I'd completed the figures.  I'd also replaced the ring of keys from the original sketch with a Monarch butterfly on the finger, as a better symbol for the Christ Child.

By December 20th, I'd started adding in flowers, roses first.

Just finished planting in a large cement pot in our backyard (Jan 13, 2020) and used it as a model for what I wanted in the painting.

A month later, I'd added the moon and clouds on the horizon, also more plants, flowers, and the large planter pot as well.

(Jan 22, 2020)

A couple weeks later, I'd added more plants and flowers, including filling up the pot with flowers as well.
